Bridgewater Fire Department is pleased to announce Michael MacDermott has been appointed its Deputy Chief. MacDermott fills the position left vacant after the retirement of Jack Hennessey, Jr. in June. MacDermott has served on the Bridgewater Fire Department for nearly 30 years. Michael began his career with the Department as a Firefighter/EMT-I in 1988. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2008. Most recently, MacDermott has served as Captain of Group 3 since his promotion early this year.
In addition to his leadership in the Department, MacDermott also leads its fire prevention and investigation teams. He recently completed the Massachusetts Fire Department’s 6-day Advanced Fire Investigation Course. He has also served as President, Vice President, Executive Board member and Bargaining Team member of Local 2611. He has been instrumental in the implementation of student and senior fire prevention education, serving as SAFE coordinator from 1997-2001 and one of the founding members of the Bridgewater Seniors First senior outreach program.
MacDermott, a Bridgewater resident, is also a very active volunteer in the community. He has volunteered as coach and member of the Board of Directors for Bridgewater Youth Football and is actively involved in Meals on Wheels.
