Town Manager, Michael Dutton announced the Acting Fire Chief yesterday. Deputy Chief Thomas D. Levy will serve as the the Town’s Acting Fire Chief effective Monday, March 21, 2016. Levy has been with the Department for nearly three decades and served as its Deputy Chief since 2006.
Dutton’s announcement is as follows:
“Town Manager Dutton has tapped Deputy Chief Thomas Levy to serve as the town’s Acting Fire Chief.
A member of the Bridgewater Fire Department for the last three decades, Acting Chief Levy will provide steady leadership and continuity to the department. He will begin his duties today, Monday, March 21, 2016.
Chief Levy has served as the senior command officer to outgoing Chief George Rogers and has held the rank of Deputy Chief since 2006. Chief Levy has a wealth of experience that will serve the department and the citizens of Bridgewater well. His knowledge and affability will be a strong asset as the BFD continues to provide excellent service and meet community needs.
Those who know Chief Levy say he is a trustworthy, pragmatic and a “straight shooter”. He doesn’t tell you what you want to hear, he tells you what you need to hear. He also understands that all of us in Bridgewater town government serve as a team. I look forward to working with Chief Levy and his team on creative and innovative ways to make modern firefighting a truly professional calling.
Public service is a way of life for Chief Levy. One could say – it’s in his blood. His brother Michael Levy retired as a lieutenant in the department and Chief Levy will now assume the position his father – Chief Clarence Levy – held for 10 years. Chief Levy has served this department with distinction for decades and has a unique understanding of its employees and the community. Deputy Chief Levy is looking forward to taking on this new role and we are grateful for his willingness to serve in this capacity. We are confident that he is committed to continuing the good work of retiring Chief George Rogers.
In the coming months, the Town will begin its efforts to fill the permanent vacancy, looking both inside and outside the department. At this time, no definitive timeline for a permanent appointment has been established.
Please join me in thanking and congratulating our new Acting Fire Chief Thomas Levy.”
