The Bridgewater Fire Department takes time every June to remember those brothers and sisters who have passed and to celebrate the service of our current members. This year’s ceremony took place on Sunday, June 12th. Led by Eagle Scouts Matthew and Mitchell Lamoureux, department members marched from headquarters to the Town Common where the ceremony took place.
Sixteen department members received Years of Service Awards; 5 years- Firefighter Casey Florence, Firefighter Christopher Hamilton; 10 years- Firefighter James Beatty, Firefighter Jeffrey Germaine, Firefighter John Maloof, Firefighter Sean Peters, Firefighter Gerald Wainio, Firefighter Daniel Westgate; 15 years- Firefighter James Leurini, Firefighter Matthew Rich, Firefighter David Santilli; 20 years- Firefighter Carol Berghaus (ret), Firefighter Paul Chuilli, Lt. John Schlatz; 25 years- Firefighter George Hogg and 35 years- Chief George Rogers (ret).
Chief Tom Levy presented the first annual Chief “Brother” Levy Firefighter of the Year Award to senior Firefighter Paul Chuilli. The award is presented to a firefighter who displays outstanding commitment, dedication, perseverance and service to the community.
The Firefighter’s Prayer was read by Colleen Perrault followed by placement of the memorial wreath and flags. The ceremony was concluded with the sounding of “Tape” by Bill Moore, “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes by Firefighter Sean Peters and Benediction by Chaplain Gary Blume.
The Department would like to thank Captain Lamoureux for organizing the ceremony and the Local 2611 Ladies Auxiliary members for providing refreshments.
