BRIDGEWATER — Police Chief Christopher Delmonte and Fire Chief Thomas Levy report that the Bridgewater Police and Fire Departments responded to a crash involving a pedestrian Friday afternoon.
At approximately 1 p.m., police and fire personnel responded to the area of 240 Plymouth St. for a report of a pedestrian crash.
Upon arrival, first responders located a 20-year-old East Bridgewater woman who had been struck by a Ford pickup truck.
The woman has serious, visible injuries and was treated at the scene by Bridgewater Fire paramedics. She was then transported by a Bridgewater Fire ambulance to Bridgewater State University, where she was picked up by a medical helicopter and flown to a Boston hospital. Her current condition is unknown at this time.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 71-year-old Bridgewater man, stopped following the crash and was cooperative with police.
The initial investigation indicates that the woman stepped off the curb and was struck by the truck.
The cause of the crash remains under active investigation by Bridgewater Police Officer Matt Lynch, with assistance from the Raynham Police Department Accident Reconstruction unit and Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department.
