Police Chief Christopher D. Delmonte and Acting Fire Chief John Schlatz report that the Bridgewater Police and Fire Departments are investigating a motor vehicle crash that occurred on Friday night, and that a driver involved will be summonsed to court to face charges.
On Friday, Dec. 1, at approximately 9:51 p.m., Bridgewater Police and Fire received report of a single car motor vehicle crash near the intersection of Spruce Street and Pine Street.
Upon arrival, officers and firefighters/paramedics observed an older model Toyota Camry sedan in the westbound lane of Spruce Street that had rolled onto its roof. The sedan’s operator and lone occupant — a 30 year old male — was found in the grass near the overturned vehicle. He was transported to an area hospital via ambulance with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
The utility pole next to the vehicle was snapped in half and was partially laying down, causing live wires to drape over the area of the roadway on Spruce Street.
National Grid was called to the scene to assist with clearing the downed wires.
An initial investigation indicates that the operator of the Toyota crossed the marked traffic lanes while driving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then struck the utility poll and rolled onto its roof.
The driver will be summonsed to court at a later date to face charges that will include Marked Lanes Violation, Speeding, Operating Under the Influence (Liquor), and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
The incident remains under investigation by Bridgewater Police Officers, with assistance from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).
