Open Burning Season Begins Jan. 15
BRIDGEWATER — Chief Thomas Levy and the Bridgewater Fire Department announce that the State Open Burning Season will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 15, and end on Friday, May 1.
Permission to burn must be obtained from the department for each day of burning by calling 508-697-0900. Callers will hear a pre-recorded message which will inform them if burning is allowed that day. If burning is not allowed that day, the phone message will say so.
Burning must be completed between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Burning must be done at least 75 feet away from buildings and be attended to at all times.
Outdoor burning is only permitted for brush, cane, driftwood, forestry debris, agricultural debris and — under certain conditions — fungus-infected elm wood. Burning of brush and trees from commercial land clearing operations is prohibited. Burning of grass, hay, stumps, building debris and tires is prohibited as well.
